Pick up a pickaxe
Ashen is built around one mode done properly. Here's how it plays and what's waiting in the hub.
Classic Prison
Main modeOld-school, non-OP prison. You start in uniform at rank A with a stone pickaxe and a handbook. Everything after that is up to you.
Fresh-start kit
New inmates get a prison uniform, a starter pickaxe, a sword, food and a 12-page handbook. Claim the kit again every 7 days with /kit starter.
Soulbound pickaxe
Your prison pickaxe can't be dropped or lost on death. /pickaxe upgrade raises Efficiency, Fortune and Unbreaking together, from level 1 to X.
Menus for everything
Open /menu for mines, ranks, shops, crates, fishing and warps. Sneak + right-click with a pickaxe to jump straight to upgrades.
The loop
Mine. Smelt. Sell. Rank up.
Mine
Work your current mine with /mine. Each rank unlocks a new one, A through Z.
Smelt
Raw metals sell for more once smelted. The /workshop has furnaces, crafting and enchanting.
Sell
Check /prices, then /sell. Your balance can never go below zero.
Rank up
Buy your next rank with /rankup. Reach Z and prestige is unlocked.
Prestige
Ten times through the alphabet
Finish Z, run /prestige and start a new A–Z run at the next prestige. It costs 15% of your balance and pays 2 Prestige Tokens. You keep your inventory, Ender Chest, XP, pickaxe enchants, currencies, keys and stats.
P10-Z is the final rank. Not many will see it.
What unlocks along the way

Lucky Finder for your pickaxe, the Prestige Shop, a fishing rod and Efficiency/Unbreaking books.

Fortune and Protection books, plus golden apples in the Prestige Shop.
- P3
Sharpness and Power books.
- P5
Key Finder and crates. Book strength maxes out at X.
- P10
The last prestige. Finish Z here and you've beaten Classic.
Currencies
Three ways to get paid
Cash
Earned by selling resources. Spent on ranks, cells and pickaxe upgrades. Check it with /balance.
Tokens
You get 1 token for every 250 blocks mined in A–Z. Spend them in /shop on PvP supplies like arrows, potions, golden apples and an iron sword.
Prestige Tokens
You get 2 for each prestige. Spend them in /pshop on high-tier enchant books, a fishing rod, XP and golden apples.
Cells
Rent a cell
The prison block holds 204 cells, and any of them can be yours. Find one with a RENT CELL sign, click it, and the door, chests and build rights are yours until the rent runs out.
When a lease ends, the cell is cleaned out and goes back on the market, so keep it topped up.

Side hustles
Fishing, finders & crates
Fishing
Cast for fish, materials, cash, tokens and the occasional treasure. /fishing shows your odds, catches and next milestone.
Lucky Finder
From P1, bind it to your pickaxe and Lucky Blocks will turn up while you mine. Open one for cash, diamonds, emeralds or XP.
Crates
At P5, Key Finder drops Normal and Prestige keys while you mine. Open them at /crates for cash, tokens, ores and PvP kits.
The PvP mine
OptionalUse /pvpmine to enter the combat zone. Anything goes inside and you drop your inventory on death (your soulbound pickaxe stays with you). Shops and crates are locked while you're in combat.
